Your Ductless
The Ductless in your home
If you are a home owner with a ductless system it is important to consider doing regular maintenance on your home comfort product. Regardless of Brand, type or model all units require cleaning and maintenance at regular intervals during their lifespan and often times this extends the machines longevity. Ductless owners fall into many categories from overly diligent to outright negligent. Many of those owners have bought a home and the unit was there when they arrived, Some are experienced and have owned this type of equipment for decades. Annual cleanings with maintenance are typically recommended if done consistently from the date of installation the unit remains in like new condition through out its lifetime and often times lasts longer than anticipated. Ductless owners will often take care of units intermittently and for some that is adequit The one statement our service teams make is that you should at least try to have your air conditioner seen to every 3 years minimum and for some based on enviroment that is not enough. Any time frame longer than 3 years becomes neglect. Many Salespeople in their haste to make a deal will not mention the maintenance requirement or will explain that it is not required. Ductless air conditioners /Heatpumps are machines and anyone familiar with machines knows that they are rarely maintenance free.
Most customers doing annual maintenace only get a basic cleaning this is often the best way as they are inexpensive and not time consuming. Based on condition of the unit it may require a more intensive approach. Units with signs of neglect will need an overhaul that could involve a full disassembly of the indoor evaporator and complete coil treatment on the outdoor condenser. There is also the Speedclean option if your product qualifies If a unit is just left alone and ignored many problems will begin to plague the product. waterleaks is a common issue and they occur for a wide variety of reasons. waterleaks cause wall staining, units will leak water from the indoor unit and damage walls "tarring" also occurs on key components and begins blowinng out of the unit and leaves impurities in the home "tarring" also causes the cylindrical fan to unbalance which will cause noise, and possibly a future service call. Clogged coils reduce efficency and airflow and increase operating preassures which can result in refrigerant leaks the white plastic of the evaporator will develope permanent stains dark brown or orange depending on enviroment Pictures below demonstrate the necessity of maintenance and cleaning.
